Arizona's two American Idol representatives survived a big hurdle, as they both captured a place among the show's top 12 contestants.

David Hernandez of Glendale and Brooke White, who grew up in Mesa, moved forward with strong performances.

On Wednesday, Phoenix native White offered a drastically reworked version of Pat Benatar's Love is a Battlefield.

After restrained approval from judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell declared that White gave "a completely great performance."
