| Brooke White Covers "Let it Be," on American Idol's Lennon/McCartney NightBy Rolando Cruz, published Mar 12, 2008 Rating: 4.3 of 5 Brooke White is not going home this week, at least not if her rendition of "Let It Be," has anything to do with it. The former nanny with the sunshine and flowers personality has performed well for several straight weeks, and is now gaining momentum as a serious contender for the coveted top spot this season. Don't believe me, ask Simon Cowell, who had as much to say about White's three week run on the top rated TV show. Unlike last week where she performed her own version of Pat Benatar's "Love Is a Battlefield," White went with a traditional arrangement of the Beatle's classic hit. She did so in much the same fashion in which she covered Carly Simon's "You are so Vain," a few weeks earlier and the results was the same, she nailed the performance. Barefooted after kicking off her shoes to play the piano, the Mesa Arizona native was visibly emotional after her heart felt rendition of the hit song. It was an unscripted moment which carried the full weight of the conviction with which White sings with. It was also a moment not lost on the audience, and one which made the often callus Cowell define as "believable," unlike some of the other Karaoke moments earlier that night. If the moment did not win over even the most traditional of Beatle's fans or American Idol followers, it should have. In this age where scandals among the contestants are the norm, not the exception, the clean cut White is a breath of fresh air to say the least.
